MedTech: Advancing Veterinary Medicine Through Education

Vimian’s MedTech segment (Movora) is advancing veterinary medicine through an education program aimed at improving surgical skills and patient outcomes. Offering high quality orthopaedic products is just one part of the equation of animal welfare — ensuring they are used correctly is equally critical. To support this, Vimian’s MedTech segment offers hands-on trainings led by highly specialised surgeons.

Since the launch of a Learning Management System (LMS) in 2022, online courses have also seen remarkable growth, with nearly 3,000 online learners participating in 2023 alone — a number that continues to climb as the offering broadens. In addition to supporting surgeons, the online education offering has expanded to include general practitioners and veterinary nurses involved in the surgical suite, helping them develop the necessary skills to support surgical procedures effectively.

We spoke with Dan Brown, Head of Global Education for Vimian’s MedTech segment, and Amber Worrick, who manages the online education platform, to delve into their approach.

“Education is at the heart of what we do,” says Dan. “We build deep, lasting relationships with surgeons by providing access to knowledge from some of the world’s leading experts.”

This philosophy allows veterinarians to immerse themselves in hands-on training, fostering trust and expertise in lab settings equipped with state-of-the-art tools.

A Dynamic Learning Management System
Amber highlights the impact of the LMS, which has redefined how veterinary professionals pursue continuing education.

“Our LMS offers a range of courses accessible anytime, anywhere — whether as prerequisites for workshops, standalone accredited courses, or recorded webinars," she explains.

To meet the needs of its global audience, Movora offers educational opportunities in five different languages: Mandarin, French, German, Spanish, and English, making its high-quality training accessible to veterinary professionals worldwide.

This system not only prepares participants for more advanced in-person workshops but also supports their ongoing certification needs.

Guiding Surgeons from Basics to Mastery
The educations are designed to support veterinarians from their first steps in surgery to advanced specialisation. Through a blend of online foundational courses and intensive workshops, Movora guides participants through a learning journey.

“The pinnacle of our program is training in total hip replacement, a highly specialised procedure requiring years of dedication and mentorship,” Dan notes.

Ethics at the Core of Surgical Training
Vimian’s commitment to education goes beyond teaching surgical techniques; it emphasises the ethical considerations of veterinary care.

“Just because we teach a procedure doesn't mean it should be performed on every patient,” Dan stresses. "We encourage vets to assess each case holistically — considering the animal’s overall well-being, quality of life, and projected lifespan. In some cases, less invasive treatments or palliative care may be more compassionate options."

Redefining the Veterinary MedTech Landscape
Vimian’s focus on education distinguishes it in the veterinary MedTech market. By prioritising high-quality training and meaningful connections, a unique position has been carved out, empowering veterinarians worldwide to elevate their practice and improve the standard of care in veterinary medicine.
